Today we're talking about love languages, and taking a critical look at them to discuss whether or not they're actually as important as we make them out to be. We're going to go over some of the key assumptions behind the love languages and of course, look at what the research has to say. And finally, we discuss both the potential benefits and the possible pitfalls of relying too heavily on the love languages as a framework.

This week, we're revisiting the five love languages, and discussing how they play a role in your interactions with others. We're going to go into a little more detail about each love language and how to navigate your relationships when your love languages don't necessarily mesh together.

Our favorite God-doctor Gary Chapman, creator of the 5 Love Languages, has come up with another useful tool for communication: the 5 Apology Languages. Have you ever apologized to your partner for a mistake in the past, only to find that your partner brings it up again a week later, expressing frustration that you never really said you were sorry? What the hell? Was your partner not listening?

It's possible that you and your partner have different apology languages. What felt like a genuine apology to you may have not landed at all with your partner. Tune in to find out more about apology languages and gain some insight for the next time one of you needs to say, "I'm sorry."

Your love language is the way in which you express love and prefer to receive love from your partners. Each person has a unique combination of love languages, some stronger than others.  You may not realize it, but you and your partner may be speaking different love languages, which can lead to confusion and frustration.
